Abstract
De 1951 à 1965, l'expansion globale de la consommation canadienne d'énergie fut de 75%, dont 72% proviennent des hydrocarbures (gaz naturel, gaz-oils, fuels, essences) de plus en plus préférés dans un grand nombre d'usages industriels et domestiques. Un trait caractéristique est l'augmentation régulière de la consommation d'essence automobile ce qui semble découler de l'accroissement de la population et de l'augmentation du niveau de vie. L'électricité conserve la quatrième place et sa consommation augmente régulièrement, caractéristique d'une économie de type évolué. Les tendances d'évolution ne peuvent être définies avec certitude ; cependant, on peut prévoir de nouveaux débouchés industriels pour l'électricité et une augmentation constante de la consommation d'essence automobile et de gaz naturel.
