Schlenk-Kolben, Schlenk-Gleichgewicht, Schlenk-Kohlenwasserstoff – alles Dinge, die fast jedem Chemiker geläufig sind. Doch wer war der Mensch, nach dem sie benannt wurden? Wilhelm Schlenk war im Alter von 47 Jahren Professor in Berlin, Präsident der Deutschen Chemischen Gesellschaft und für den Nobel-Preis in Chemie nominiert. Kaum zehn Jahre später musste er Berlin verlassen und wurde von der Forschung ausgeschlossen; seine Lebensgeschichte geriet weitgehend in Vergessenheit. Die Geschichte seines Aufstiegs und Falls ist nicht nur die eines brillianten Wissenschaftlers, sondern auch die eines Mannes mit ethischen Prinzipien und Zivilcourage.
