Abstract
Although many genetics professionals have anecdotal stories of insurance claim denials and inadequate coverage, few studies have attempted to systematically characterize health insurance coverage of genetic services.Funding was provided by the Illinois Department of Public Health to survey medical directors of the ten largest health insurance companies in Illinois regarding coverage of genetic services.Here, we present data from three respondents representing companies that provide health insurance to over 25% of Illinois residents.In addition, we summarized published policies relating to genetic services from all ten Illinois health insurance companies with publicly available coverage policies.Our results demonstrate that health
