Abstract
Cet article est fondé sur un travail de terrain de plusieurs années au Brésil sur un mouvement populaire d'habitation à Sao Paulo et sur la démocratie et la participation populaire dans la ville de Diadema. La thèse de l'auteure, après avoir montré que les mouvements sociaux sont des mouvements sexués, est d'expliquer comment les rapports sociaux de sexe concourent à formuler des objectifs de lutte qui sont devenus des enjeux collectifs pour les hommes et les femmes. La sexuation de la participation populaire a des conséquences directes sur l'existence et la nature des politiques publiques ainsi que sur la mise en oeuvre d'une citoyenneté sociale pour ceux et celles qui en sont privés.
