Abstract
Les aides familiales, presque exclusivement des femmes, sont embauchées pour s'occuper d'enfants ou d'adultes malades, handicapés ou en perte d'autonomie et effectuer du travail ménager dans la résidence privée d'un employeur. Dans le contexte de la lutte de longue haleine de l'Association des aides familiales du Québec pour faire reconnaître ce travail et la qualification professionnelle exigée, la présente recherche a pour objet de mesurer le contenu de la tâche d'un échantillon diversifié de 22 aides familiales dont la plupart sont des immigrantes récentes venant de pays pauvres. Des données sur la formation et l'expérience de travail des aides familiales et sur la durée du temps de travail sont confrontées à l'information obtenue sur les salaires et les conditions de travail pour confirmer l'hypothèse selon laquelle le travail d'aide familiale est sous-évalué.
