Enquête auprès de décrocheurs sur les raisons de leur abandon scolaire

Abstract
Cette étude a pour objectif de cerner l'opinion de décrocheurs sur les motifs de leur abandon précoce des études. Un questionnaire, composé de 58 éléments portant sur les motifs de décrochage scolaire, a été remis à 127 décrocheurs (dont 50 répondants) d'une commission scolaire affichant un taux d'abandon de 51 %. Les répondants (19 filles et 31 garçons) ont un âge moyen de 19,11 ans. Les résultats révèlent que les décrocheurs abandonnent l'école parce qu'ils ont perdu le goût de l'étude et qu'ils attribuent cette perte de motivation à des raisons liées à l'école, aux enseignants, à leurs attentes non comblées et aux cours dispensés. Ces résultats rejoignent les observations de Fensham, Power, Kemmis et Tripp (1986) qui croient que l'aliénation scolaire est une caractéristique majeure du système de l'éducation. En conclusion, les auteurs précisent quelques pistes pour des recherches subséquentes.
