Abstract
Cet article reprend l’analyse des-sfinals non étymologiques à la 1sg de certains verbes français, par ex., (je) Ii > (je) lis. Il y est montré que cet-sn’était pas à l’origine un simple fait de graphie, mais qu’il notait une consonne articulée [s] - au moins dans certains dialectes - et que cette consonne se prononçait encore au milieu du XVIesiècle. Ce-sn’est pas une forme analogique de la 2sg, comme il est souvent admis. Au contraire, il s’est créé unenouvelle marquede 1sg à la suite de changements phonétiques réguliers tels que la consonne finale-sde certains radicaux verbaux a été réinterprétée comme une marque de 1sg, phonétiquement identique à celle de la 2sg. C’est le syncrétisme entre ces deux marques de personne qui a permis la généralisation (incomplète) du-sde 1sg à de nouvelles formes verbales.
