Contexte : Les étudiants approchent leur apprentissage d’une manière qui dépend de leur perception du contexte curriculaire. Or, la faculté de médecine et des sciences de la santé de l’université de Sherbrooke se soucie particulièrement de promouvoir un apprentissage en profondeur. But : Vérifier l’hypothèse que nos étudiants adoptent une approche d’apprentissage de plus en plus profonde au fur et à mesure qu’ils avancent dans le curriculum médical pré-clinique. Sujets et méthodes : 404 étudiants se portèrent volontaires. Leur approche d’apprentissage fut mesurée à l’aide du questionnaire R-SPQ-2F. Résultats : L’analyse factorielle en composantes principales confirme la structure en deux dimensions (profondeur, surface) du R-SPQ-2F. Les scores moyens de chacune des classes de 1e, 2e et 3e année quant à la dimension profondeur sont respectivement de 68, 65 et 66 %; pour la dimension surface, ces scores sont respectivement 41, 42 et 39 %. Aucune différence statistique n’est trouvée. Conclusions : Les étudiants en médecine à l’université de Sherbrooke privilégient l’approche d’apprentissage en profondeur : ils recourent de façon modérée à l’approche profonde; ils recourent de façon moins fréquente mais néanmoins significative à l’approche en surface. Ce profil ne change pas au fur et à mesure de l’avancée dans le curriculum préclinique. Ce profil est peut-être optimal ; il peut aussi résulter du « curriculum parallèle » ou encore de moyens d’évaluation qui solliciteraient moins que souhaité le recours à une approche d’apprentissage en profondeur.
