Abstract
Cet article présente un bilan de la recherche en histoire de la presse au Québec et trace les grandes lignes d'un programme de recherche sur ce sujet. Les auteurs plaident en faveur d'une histoire sociale de la presse qui mettrait les acteurs sociaux au centre de l'analyse et qui tiendrait compte de l'« espace médiatique » dans toutes ses dimensions. Les orientations proposées sont regroupées en trois domaines, à savoir la production des messages, par les journalistes et par les entreprises, les messages eux-mêmes, tant sur le plan des contenus rédactionnel et publicitaire que sur celui de leur présentation, et, enfin, la réception de ces messages, qui renvoie au lectorat, mais aussi au rôle et à la liberté de la presse.
