Résumé Le texte a pour objet le racisme à l’endroit des peuples autochtones au Québec et au Canada. Il se penche sur les représentations collectives de la population dominante à leur sujet, illustrant les processus par lesquels les autochtones sont occultés et stéréotypés dans l’espace social. Les stéréotypes les plus courants, soit « l’Indien violent », « l’Indien onéreux », « l’Indien saoul » et le « noble sauvage », sont discutés et situés dans leurs contextes institutionnalisés au moyen d’exemples cliniques. Une discussion est également amenée sur le rapport entre autochtones et Québécois francophones, deux groupes qui se définissent comme culturellement opprimés au sein du Canada. La conclusion aborde les intérêts en jeu dans la dynamique de discrimination structurelle envers les autochtones.
