Abstract
Le réveil de l’ardeur morale à l’âge baroque se traduisit en autres par l’apparition d’un nouveau discours sur la mort, le quotidie morior , lequel requiert une constante préparation à la mort par le biais de divers exercices spirituels propres à familiariser les hommes avec l’idée de la mort, à leur en rappeler l’imminence, et à les tenir constamment dans l’état le plus propice à l’accueillir. La méditation sur le crâne et les efforts de vision apriorique du cérémonial de sa propre mort sont au nombre de ces exercices, qui s’inscrivent dans le cadre général d’un humanisme dévot opérant une solide synthèse entre dogmes anciens et morale chrétienne, et conférant ainsi, au nom d’une morale pratique ou utilitaire, leurs fondements rationnels ou mystiques à certaines vieilles conceptions idéologiques.
