Abstract
Résumé L’exposition peut être abordée comme un système stratégique de représentations dont la finalité est la construction d’identités qui sont, bien entendu, d’ordre artistique, mais qui prennent aussi part à l’affirmation de divers projets d’affirmation identitaire. Cet article résulte de l’examen d’un corpus d’expositions d’art contemporain du Québec ayant explicitement affiché l’identité urbaine des œuvres exposées. Certaines d’entre elles ont mis en vue des œuvres dont le propos était la ville elle-même, alors que d’autres, au contraire, ont inscrit les œuvres exposées dans une culture artistique transnationale, en prenant place dans un réseau de centres artistiques localisés dans des villes pour la plupart européennes. Cette analyse démontre que ces expositions ont ainsi signalé le pluralisme géographique de la scène de l’art contemporain, se manifestant tant dans l’affirmation d’une culture locale que dans le déploiement de réseaux de diffusion, autres que ceux des métropoles artistiques.
