Doing Theology in a Secularized Society and an Estranged Church: Issues from Quebec

Abstract
Quebec’s society is partly defined by moving from colonialism and strong public religiosity to secularism and a new religious plurality resulting from immigration. Often considered the most secularized society in North America, Quebec is actually in the midst of a public and much publicized debate on the place of religion in the public space. Recently, several theologians from the University of Montreal took part in this debate 2 taking up several themes that I will also address in the latter half of this article. But first, I will offer a description of the situation of theological education in Quebec.
