Abstract
Les théories dominantes de la décision font de l’information et de sa perception l’élément déterminant du processus de décision. Or la faillite de la Banque Barings pose un problème majeur à ces théories : les dirigeants de cette vénérable institution ont reçu, dans les mois qui ont précédé la faillite, de nombreux signaux d’alarme et n’ont pourtant rien fait pour empêcher la catastrophe. Nous proposons de réinterpréter ce cas d’école, à partir d’une approche résolument constructiviste, montrant que ces dirigeants se sont construit une réalité qui, à leurs yeux, constituait La Réalité, une Réalité dans laquelle l’imposture du jeune trader Nick Leeson était tout simplement impossible. Pour « entrer » dans cette « réalité » des dirigeants de la banque, nous mobiliserons la théorie des « possibles » et des « impossibles » élaborée par Andreu Solé.
