Abstract

Deux positions sur la réanalyse se sont largement répandues dans la littérature. La première correspond à la position classique du courant syntaxique dominant en principes et paramètres. Selon cette approche, le fait de réinitialiser brutalement un paramètre donne lieu à un ensemble de réanalyses structurales. La seconde approche s’est dans un premier temps développée dans le contexte de la linguistique fonctionnelle. Selon cette vision des choses, le changement diachronique est « flou », dans la mesure où les catégories et les constructions syntaxiques subissent une réanalyse graduelle. Dans cet article, je défends l’idée qu’aucune des deux positions n’est correcte. La réanalyse est en fait discrète et brutale. Cependant, il faut abandonner l’idée selon laquelle les réanalyses pourraient être posées en termes de réinitialisation de paramètres.
