Francine Saillant e Serge Genest organizam esta coletânea reunindo autores renomados que realizam o estado da arte desse campo em seus respectivos países.O livro é divido em três grandes partes, a saber: 1) Olhares das Américas; 2) Olhares europeus; 3) Perspectivas transversais e temáticas.Na primeira parte, "Olhares das Américas", Gilles Bibeau, Janice Graham e Usher Fleising, no capítulo "Biociências e biotecnologias sob vigilância etnográfi ca: onde se situam os antropólogos médicos canadenses?", discutem a rica pluralidade teórico-metodológica da antropologia canadense.A ênfase é colocada nas análises sociais, políticas, econômicas e éticas sobre pesquisas relacionadas às biociências e às biotecnologias.Em "A antropologia da saúde no Québec: por uma combinação das abordagens e dos métodos", Raymond Massé explora as contribuições da antropologia anglófona para a antropologia quebequense.O autor menciona as potencialidades da singular antropologia desenvolvida no Québec para o cenário global ressaltando as contribuições da mesma à saúde pública.Paul Farmer e Arachu Castro objetivam discutir "A antropologia médica nos Estados Unidos".Após traçarem os percursos teórico-metodológicos da antropologia e da saúde pública no país, os autores colocam em relevo a preocupação dos antropólogos americanos com as críticas sobre o pragmatismo da antropologia médica dirigida aos mesmos e do esforço empreendido para superá-lo através da construção de um arcabouço teórico substancial.
