Apresentamos, nesse artigo, a teoria construtivista-crítica da comunicação que chamamos de ecologia dos sentidos e a metodologia para a sua instrumentalização, que integra as propostas da semiótica construtivista-crítica e da pesquisa açãoengajada. Exploramos essas contribuições para o entendimento do processo de comunicação, apresentando seus fundamentos conceituais, encontrados em aspectos teóricos da filosofia de Habermas, da epistemologia genética de Piaget e da teoria da esquematização e da lógica natural de Grize. Expomos os princípios de base da teoria comunicativa e do método que propomos justificando sua pertinência e aplicação em estudo de processos comunicativos contemporâneos.
