In blindness, the primary visual cortex (V1) responds to auditory inputs (cross-modal plasticity; In a study published in the Journal of Neuroscience, The authors concluded, based on their modeling results, that V1 activation in the blind is most likely driven by auditory inputs arising from the primary auditory cortex (A1).
