Abstract
Der vorliegende Text schildert erstens das französische Schulsystem im Sekundarunterricht, der in den öffentlichen collèges (entsprechend der deutschen Mittelstufe/Sekundarstufe I) und lycées (Sekundarstufe II) kostenlos, nicht konfessionell und obligatorisch von 6 bis 16 Jahren ist. Dabei liegt der Schwerpunkt auf dem Geschichtsunterricht in der Sekundarstufe sowie dem »Baccalauréat« (Abitur). Eine Besonderheit des französischen Bildungssystems bilden zweitens die zweijährigen Vorbereitungsklassen (»Classes préparatoires«), die nach dem Abitur eine Vorbereitung zur Aufnahmeprüfung (»Concours«) zu einer Grande école – in Geschichte: zu einer École Normale Supérieure – anbieten. Diese werden nach einem rigorosen Auswahlverfahren von Schülern besucht, die im Fall eines Erfolgs einen Beamtenstatus auf Zeit erwerben. Nach einer kurzen Bilanzierung der Vorteile, aber auch der Kritiken an diesem zweistufigen System geht der Artikel abschließend der Frage der internationalen und insbesondere deutsch-französischen Öffnung des französischen Schulsystems nach.
