Abstract
Dans l’entre-deux-guerres, les constructions touristiques se multiplient dans les sites les plus pittoresques des Vosges, provoquant des plaintes de la part des amoureux du paysage.La législation locale avait permis de premières mesures de protection, tandis que la législation française, plus développée, est rapidement introduite en Alsace. Elle prévoit surtout la création d’une commission départementale des Sites, chargée de la protection des paysages.Son rôle est important, car les beaux sites des Vosges sont de plus en plus menacés par l’intérêt grandissant qu’ils suscitent auprès des touristes et des entrepreneurs, et sont en proie à un véritable « mitage ». La commission dispose de nombreux outils et développe une doctrine bien déterminée en matière de protection. Mais ces mesures ont leurs limites, et la commission connaît de nombreuses difficultés à les faire appliquer. Pour tenter d’harmoniser les constructions auxquelles elle ne peut s’opposer, elle organise un concours d’architecture vosgienne afin d’avoir des modèles de chalets à proposer aux nouveaux constructeurs.
