Abstract
Cette étude exploratoire s’intéresse aux dilemmes éthiques dans le contexte des soins intensifs (SI) de fin de vie. Les services de santé canadiens ont à faire face à de nombreux problèmes de ressources humaines et plus particulièrement ceux relatifs aux effectifs infirmiers, dont la pénurie, la rétention et le roulement. La détérioration des conditions et des milieux de travail ajoute au niveau de stress vécu par les infirmières et infirmiers et diminue leur capacité à accomplir leur travail de manière satisfaisante. Un des enjeux rencontrés par le personnel infirmier sont les dilemmes éthiques. Cette étude est basée sur une recherche-action de type constructiviste dont les buts sont d’identifier les dilemmes éthiques rapportés par les infirmières et infirmiers aux SI et les valeurs en conflit. Les deux dilemmes éthiques explorés ici sont l’acharnement thérapeutique et l’euthanasie. Nous concluons en dégageant une réflexion sur le vécu du personnel infirmier pratiquant aux SI.
