Abstract
Depuis leur fondation en 2003, l’activité toujours croissante des Éditions Tintamarre, petites presses universitaires basées au Centenary College of Louisiana, à Shreveport, a donné un nouveau souffle à l’édition francophone en Louisiane. Se décrivant comme une « maison d’édition en langues patrimoniales » — heritage language press —, Tintamarre réédite des oeuvres du xix e siècle tout en tendant la main à la création actuelle en français. C’est ce « double jeu » qu’examine cet article. D’une part, il interroge l’inscription de cette entreprise de récupération littéraire dans divers contextes, ou champs d’insertion, au moyen de l’enjeu stratégique que serait la qualité patrimoniale des textes (re)publiés; ceux-là comprennent entre autres : le multilinguisme étatsunien, la francophonie nord-américaine ou encore les études françaises aux États-Unis. D’autre part, il met en lumière la « cohérence de la contradiction » qui sous-tend cette initiative hardie, à savoir la promotion du livre-monument , présenté comme un héritage culturel appartenant même aux non-francophones, afin de favoriser le livre-texte , instrument de développement du français comme langue vivante en Louisiane.
