Après une problématisation de la définition des curricula et programmes d’études en termes de compétences, l’article propose une analyse des documents de référence pour l’enseignement et l’évaluation des mathématiques à l’école primaire, pour ce qui est de la Suisse Romande et du canton de Genève. Il souligne les processus transpositifs « ascendants » qui ont contribué à des recommandations institutionnelles à partir des pratiques du terrain coordonnées à des actions de formation en matière d’évaluation des apprentissages. Il met en évidence les tensions, parfois contradictoires, entre les différents documents curriculaires et conceptualise l’articulation entre les notions d’objectif et de compétence qui, dans le contexte genevois, ne sont pas opposées.
