Abstract
On a maintes fois accusé Christian Metz de vouloir faire de la linguistique avec le cinéma et de laisser pour compte toute forme de préoccupation esthétique liée au 7e art. Or rien n’est plus faux. Jamais le projet metzien n’a fait l’économie de l’esthétique; bien au contraire cette dernière assure une continuité souterraine, partiellement refoulée, qui travaille néanmoins cette autre continuité parallèle et plus visible, plus assumée en surface, plus ‘scientifique’, qu’est le thème langagier. Ce sont les deux trames qui se rejoignent dans l’idée que Metz a défendue, soit celle du cinéma comme art logomorphique.
