In an inheritance lawsuit, four brothers alleged that their fifth deceased brother would be excluded from paternity of his son. The son refused to undergo tests. The approach of this study lies in calculating the probability of success in determining the biological paternity of the deceased brother before his alleged son underwent the test. The problem is resolved through a hypothesis test. On the basis of the four brothers' genotypes, it is possible to reconstruct the grandparents' genotypes. If the son is descended from the deceased brother, at least one allele in each genetic system should be present within the grandparents' genotypes. Consequently, given a system, if the son's alleles are different from the corresponding alleles in the same system of the grandparents, then the son is not truly a descendent.
