Abstract
Dieu a une place discrète dans la vie publique canadienne, dans le préambule de la Constitution, dans des devises, des prières, des serments. Des symboles chrétiens se trouvent par ailleurs présents un peu partout : par exemple, dans la fleur de lys, dans l’architecture et les symboles du bâtiment de l’Assemblée nationale du Québec. Quant à la prière des élus au début d’une assemblée politique, a-t-elle un effet discriminatoire sur les membres du public y assistant et ne croyant pas dans un être supérieur ou plus généralement non chrétiens ? D’abord, je réfléchirai aux points de vue en jeu pour ensuite détailler les prières et leur contexte, avant de terminer en commentant les décisions ontariennes, méconnues au Québec.
