Abstract
Ce travail examine certaines parodies du débat taxonomique de 1830 et se penche sur le contebalzacien du « Guide-âne des animaux voulant parvenir aux honneurs ». Ce texte peut passer pour une démystification du débat, à l’instar de textes à charge contemporains. Les aspects bouffons du texte renforcent toutefois le clivage entre la science et la fiction, ce qui entretient la mystification savante. Celle-ci est aussi cultivée de façon plus subtile, car l’auteur fustige des savants stipendiés, ce qui laisserait croire à une vérité bafouée. Or, la rhétorique du conte, déployée sur le fond des insuffisances du positivisme, montre un Balzac fort conscient des failles logiques du débat et prêt à dévoiler – à quelques sceptiques – le grotesque d’une science en manque d’arbitrage. À ce titre, le « Guide-âne » soulève la question des « angles morts » culturels et problématise le rapport entre posture savante et imposture.
