Abstract
La manière dont la question des conflits d’intérêts en recherche est généralement posée se révèle insuffisante. Elle ne permet plus d’en cerner tous les tenants et aboutissants ni de comprendre pourquoi elle tend aujourd’hui à se banaliser. Les conditions dans lesquelles s’exerce la recherche brouillent les cartes, introduisent une confusion dans les intérêts poursuivis par les chercheurs, et rendent ces intérêts plus difficiles à reconnaitre, à défendre et à hiérarchiser. C’est é la reformulation du problème que le présent article veut contribuer, d’une part, en examinant plus largement le contexte social et scientifique dans lequel la question se pose, et d’autre part, en montrant que les conflits d’intérêts se présentent de manière très différente en médecine et en sciences sociales. Cet exercice conduit à poser autrement le problème des conflits d’intérêts, à aller au-delà de l’intégrité des individus et de la bonne gouvernance pour réfléchir sur les finalités de la recherche.
