Abstract
L'analyse d'un livre traitant de l'histoire de l'architecture de la ville de Québec, est l'occasion pour l'auteur d'effectuer une réflexion méthodologique sur les notions d'observation, de transposition de codes, de glissement de fonctions, de différence entre espace et territoire, entre ville et capitale. Le cas singulier de l'évolution de la ville de Québec vue à travers son architecture revêt une valeur universelle si l'on prend soin d'en dégager des processus, des modèles, des mécanismes plus généraux. C'est toute l'interprétation géohistorique de l'aménagement des territoires du Nouveau-Monde qui est remise en cause, faute d'un cadre conceptuel adéquat.
