Abstract
A safe undergraduate laboratory experiment involving the synthesis of microporous metal germanium sulfide materials under aqueous, room-temperature conditions is described. It introduces students to the synthetic methods of self-assembly and solid-state chemistry. The products are characterized by powder X-ray diffraction and vibrational spectroscopy.
