Ce papier présente une synthèse sur les principaux mécanismes physico-chimiques responsables de la rétention des métaux lourds dans les solides. À partir de ces mécanismes, nous présenterons diverses méthodes de stabilisation des métaux lourds dans les sols contaminés, ainsi que la stabilisation par les liants hydrauliques des rejets industriels riches en métaux lourds. Le cas particulier des rejets de concentrateurs miniers sera aussi abordé. Dans cet article, nous nous intéresserons plus particulièrement aux éléments suivants : As, Cd, Cr, Cu Hg, Pb, Zn.
