Abstract
This two-part paper discusses whether occupational therapists could utilize the psychodynamic approach to extend cognitive-behavioural pain management. Part one reviews basic cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic theory and looks at their relevance to chronic pain sufferers. Part two will provide a rationale for the application of the psychodynamic approach in chronic pain.
