Abstract
La Loi sur la protection de la jeunesse de 1977 a été adoptée au terme d'une décennie de débats sociaux et parlementaires ponctuée par la présentation à l'Assemblée nationale de quatre propositions législatives successives. Appelée à remplacer une loi remontant aux années 1950, la loi de 1977 représente d'importants enjeux politiques, philosophiques et professionnels. Autour des thèmes fondamentaux que sont la « déjudiciarisation », les droits et l'intérêt de l'enfant, le champ d'application de la loi ainsi que les instances de réception, d'orientation et de contrôle destinées à en assurer l'application, le présent exposé retrace les discussions intervenues en commission parlementaire et ailleurs et tente de reconstituer le processus de maturation de ce texte législatif, le tout afin de mieux établir les lignes de force de cette réforme et les choix politiques qu'elle reflète.
