Abstract
Ce texte analyse les relations de travail au quotidien montréalais Le Devoir de l’arrivée de Claude Ryan en 1964 à la direction du journal jusqu’à la crise de l’été 1993 sous Lise Bissonnette. Il raconte la rencontre entre une phase de désarroi de la direction et une vigoureuse poussée de l’affirmation collective des journalistes québécois. Au Devoir, le syndicat des journalistes formulera dans des moments clés l’exigence du retour à l’équilibre entre les dimensions « entreprise industrielle » et « œuvre collective » qui caractérise cette institution québécoise.
