Abstract
Au cours de ses années à la tête du service de l’information de Radio-Canada de 2006 à 2012, son leadership a permis à la Société de développer une vision de l’information misant sur le journalisme d’enquête, ce qui a largement contribué à lever le voile sur les scandales dans l’industrie de la construction, sur la corruption, sur le financement occulte des partis politiques et d’autres sujets importants.Durant les dernières années, les journalistes ont été bousculés par une succession d’innovations technologiques qui ont considérablement transformé l’acte journalistique. De plus, les habitudes de consommation des médias d’information ont aussi énormément changé.Ici au Québec, la profession journalistique a en plus été éprouvée par d’autres types de mutations. Il y a d’abord eu un mouvement spectaculaire vers la concentration dans la propriété des médias, laquelle a engendré une compétition féroce entre les grands groupes de médias, Power Corporation/Gesca, Québecor et Radio-Canada. Puis nous avons aussi assisté à un glissement des médias vers une polarisation idéologique droite-gauche et à une montée en flèche de l’humeur et des coups de gueule. Alain Saulnier nous montre comment cela est venu influencer la pratique journalistique au Québec.
