L’étude des mouvements d’action catholique spécialisée permetde mettre en relief l’émergence progressive de la jeunesse comme groupe socialorganisé à partir des années 1930. L’analyse du discours et des revendicationsde l’un de ces mouvements, la Jeunesse ouvrière catholique féminine (JOCF),permet en effet d’identifier les bases à partir desquelles ces associations vontrevendiquer l’inscription des besoins et des priorités des jeunes à l’agenda desdébats sociaux. En valorisant l’origine sociale des jeunes, en tablant sur la nonmixitédes mouvements et la responsabilité des laïcs, ces mouvements constituentnon seulement une voie privilégiée où se structure une jeunesse organisée,mais aussi un terreau favorable à l’émergence de l’hétérogénéité de cette mêmejeunesse. L’analyse des orientations de la Fédération des mouvements dejeunesse du Québec, un organisme qui se structure à la fin des années 1940afin de représenter les diverses associations de jeunes, confirme l’existence dece double processus.
