Abstract
La théologie, telle que la comprend Pierre Gisel, n'est pas d'abord une fonction d'Église, mais bien un travail qui s'effectue d'abord à partir des données humaines communes à tous. La condition contemporaine interpelle la théologie du côté de l'histoire. Pour cette raison, Gisel propose d'articuler une théorie du christianisme à une théorie de la religion pour arriver à penser une généalogie de l'Occident. Deux théories du christianisme, qui ont en commun de le comprendre comme un geste de dépassement, seront ici présentées : celle de Marcel Gauchet et celle de Jean-Luc Nancy. Toutefois, ces deux théories divergent sur la manière de répondre au défi que représente la pensée du politique dans un monde « sorti de la religion » ou qui vit « la fin du sens ». Ces deux voies représentent deux lieux de parole possibles pour la théologie.
