Kinetic studies and Mechanism Evolution of the Ammoxidation of 3-picoline Over V2O5/ZrO2 Catalyst

Abstract
A kinetic investigation of the ammoxidation of 3-picoline to 3-cyanopyrdine has been studied over V2O5/ZRO2 Catalyst in a differential flow reactor in the temperature range 573-683 K. The partial pressures of 3-picoline, oxygen and ammonia were varied and rates were measured for the formation of 3-cyanopyridine. Kinetics studies reveal that the mechanism of the reaction is of the “Redox” type. The rate equation deduced, assuming a study state involving a three stage oxidation-reduction process, represented the data most satisfactorily for conversion of 3-picoline to nicotinonitrile. Catalysts have been characterized using IR, XRD, ESR, Surface area and ammonia desorption methods with a view to understanding the structure and nature of bonding over the surface of the catalyst. A tentative mechanism of the process has been suggested. On a étudié la cinétique d'ammoxydation de picoline-3 en cyanopyrdine-3 sur un catalyseur V2O5/ZRO2 dans un réacteur d'écoulement différentiel dans la gamme de températures de 573-683 k. On a fait varier les pressions partielles de la picoline-3, de l'oxygène et de l'ammoniac et a mesuré les cinétiques de formation de la cyanopyridine-3. Les études cinétiques révèlent que le mécanisme réactionnel est du type « Redox ». L'équation cinétique qui en découle, en supposant un cas d'étude impliquant un procédé d'oxydation et de réduction triphasique, représente bien les données pour la conversion de la picoline-3 en nicotinonitrile. Les catalyseurs sont caractérisés à l'aide de IR, XRD, ESR, de leur caractéristique de surface et de méthodes de désoprtion de l'ammonium, dans le but de mieux comprendre la structure et la nature de la liaison à la surface du catalyseur. On suggère une tentative de mécanisme pour le procédé.
