Cet article se propose de caractériser et d’analyser quelques-unes des expériences temporelles féminines, à la vieillesse, à partir de l’examen de « l’habiter chez-soi ». Les tensions intimes qui marquent les rapports au temps, au moment du « retour à la maison », apparaissent liées à la redéfinition du rôle féminin et des rapports conjugaux. Le sentiment de précarité du chez-soi introduit une nouvelle tension au sein de l’expérience de l’habiter. La continuité des générations et le soin que chacune prend de l’autre apparaissent comme un enjeu existentiel majeur de la vieillesse. Enfin, sont aussi examinées l’ouverture du chez-soi à autrui et les transformations du sens de l’hospitalité.
