Nach ihrer Blutmahlzeit versammeln sich Bettwanzen als Reaktion auf ein Pheromongemisch zu Schwärmen. Das Pheromon verursacht bei Kontakt Ruhigstellung der Tiere und besteht aus fünf flüchtigen Lockmolekülen sowie Histamin, wie R. Britton, G. Gries und Mitarbeiter in ihrer Zuschrift auf S. 1151 ff. erläutern. Es ist hoch wirksam beim Anlocken von Bettwanzen in befallenen Räumen und bietet somit die Möglichkeit, als Lockstoff für den Nachweis von Bettwanzen eingesetzt zu werden (Bild: M. Habrar und S. Demuth).
