Abstract

Dans les dernières années, le Canada, tout comme la France, ont enregistré une haussedu nombre d’enfants victimisés, signalés aux autorités. Cet article examine l’hypothèsevoulant que les histoires d’enfants maltraités publiées par les médias ont conscientiséla population à signaler davantage les cas de victimation. Il s’appuie sur l’analyse del’entrée quotidienne des signalements (N = 11563) durant deux années dans un centrede protection de l’enfance de même que sur la couverture médiatique de la protection dela jeunesse dans la presse écrite. Les résultats font état d’un impact modéré des médiassur les signalements d’enfants, l’ampleur de cette relation variant selon la catégorie depersonnes qui signalent.
