Abstract Let Aθ be the universal C*-algebra generated by two unitaries U, V satisfying VU = e2πiθUV and let Φ be the antiautomorphism of Aθ interchanging U and V. The K-theory of Rθ = { a ∈ Aθ: Φ(a) = a*} is computed. When θ is irrational, an inductive limit of algebras of the form is constructed which has complexification Aθ and the same K-theory as Rθ.
