Abstract
Depuis deux décennies, les religieuses catholiques font l’objet de recherches tant historiques que sociologiques. Ces études, plus nombreuses dans le monde nord-américain, participent plus généralement des recherches sur la question des femmes et du genre dont le développement a été favorisé par le contexte des mouvements féministes des années 1970. Parmi les thèmes développés, il y a la question de la féminité des religieuses, leur rapport au travail, leur organisation interne et leur action sociale. Si les interrogations se recoupent au Canada, aux États-Unis et en France, les conclusions, souvent liées à des positions épistémologiques différentes, varient. Ainsi, en Amérique du Nord, plus qu’en France, on s’accorde à reconnaître le rôle non négligeable des religieuses dans la cité.
