Abstract
On parle beaucoup du cinéma québécois depuis quelque temps.Des productions récentes telles que Séraphin, de Charles Binamé, La grande séduction, de Jean-François Pouliot, Gaz bar blues, de Louis Bélanger, ou Les invasions barbares, de Denys Arcand ont connu, tant au Québec qu'à l'étranger, un vif succès auprès du public et de la critique.On sait cependant peu de chose sur le contenu proprement dit des films.Quelles sont, globalement et historiquement, les images de la société québécoise qui sont véhiculées par le cinéma ?Dans cet article, nous proposons d'examiner les représentations de l'identité au sein de l'imaginaire filmique québécois 1 .Il s'agit de voir comment la question identitaire est posée ou s'exprime.Il s'agit de voir aussi comment cette question devient un problème formulé par des locuteurs qui, dans leurs dialogues ou réflexions, retravaillent l'identité québécoise.Sur le plan théorique, nous mobilisons les principaux outils d'une analyse herméneutique développée par Paul Ricœur grâce à ses notions centrales d'identité narrative et de récit 2 .L'identité est ainsi conceptualisée comme une mise en récit au sein de laquelle la société élabore sa mémoire 165 Le « renouveau » du cinéma québécois Ch.
