Abstract
L'espace social que décrit un roman révèle en partie l'imaginaire de l'écrivain — à la recherche d'une sorte d'exil dans des espaces lointains, connus ou rêvés — et témoigne d'un désir de penser autrement. Marginal par rapport à sa culture, étranger de l'intérieur, l'écrivain se déplace, ne serait-ce qu'en écriture, afin de transgresser les règles imposées par une culture nationale. L'écrivain québécois qui « voyage » au Brésil rencontre un espace autre, qui lui permet de parler d'un monde où les enjeux culturels et les interdictions sont différents. Moi, Brésilienne vivant à Rio, je ferai le voyage dans l'autre sens : lectrice privilégiée des auteurs québécois, je les regarde nous regarder et je leur tends le miroir. La représentation du Brésil qui prendra forme dans cet article sera celle de deux regards croisés. Je ne suis pas sûre d'atteindre une vérité nue au fond du puits, mais je choisis d'entamer un dialogue interculturel et d'affronter les embûches qui se présenteront en cours de route.
