Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

To the Editor— We thank Meydani and Hammer [1] for their interest in our article and for pointing out an error in it [2]. Indeed, Meydani and Hammer [1] reported an association between pneumonia and higher final zinc concentrations in nursing home residents (rate ratio, 0.52; 95% confidence interval, 0.36–0.76) [3]. Of note, however, the authors did not find an association between baseline zinc levels and pneumonia when they compared high zinc levels with low zinc levels (rate ratio, 0.87; 95% confidence interval, 0.63, 1.21) [3]. Their inference of a positive association must therefore be viewed cautiously, because temporality was not taken into account in their inference (i.e., pneumonia episodes preceded the final zinc measurements). Potential conflicts of interest. M.L. and T.F.: no conflicts.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
