Résumé La transformation fonctionnelle et modale du discours est sans doute l'un des aspects jusqu'ici les plus étudiés du Journal d'Henriette Dessaulles. Certains critiques ont tenté d'expliquer ce déplacement de l'essence diaristique vers ce qui apparaît être sa négation par les thèses du roman d'amour et du roman d'initiation. Le présent article avance l'hypothèse que cette conversion du discours diaristique serait plutôt liée au programme de réforme personnelle qu'entreprend la jeune Henriette face aux contraintes et aux conventions inhérentes à sa condition bourgeoise. Espace d'un rite d'institution, processus d'intégration sociale, le journal d'Henriette Dessaulles serait ainsi le lieu d'une contre-aventure où le moi intime, loin de se trouver, serait lancé vers sa déperdition.
