飼料用穀物等の輸入に伴う国外からの雑草種子の非意図的導入とその耕地への拡散,在来生態系への逸出が大きな問題となっている。しかし,侵入経路ごとにどのような雑草がどの程度混入しているのかは解明されていない。非意図的侵入源の一つと想定される輸入乾草中の混入雑草種子を調査した。1995年の半年間,栃木県那須山麓酪農協に入荷したコンテナーの乾草残渣を回収し,3ヶ国7品目の計150検体について混入雑草種子を選別,識別し,同定に供した。1検体あたり種子数が10以上および複数検体から検出された雑草種子は概ね属レベルまで同定し,約60分類群を同定した。総混入件数の60%がイネ科草種であった。1検体あたり100粒以上の大量混入が確認された草種はホトケノザ(Lamium amplexicaule),スベリヒユ(Portulaca oleracea),シロザ(Chenopodium album),オートムギ(Avena sativa),カラスムギ(Avena fatua),ライグラス類(Lolium spp.),エノコログサ類(Setaria spp.),ナギナタガヤ類(Vulpia spp.),コムギ(Triticum aestivum)で,これらのほとんどが発芽力のある種子を含んでいた。最も多数の検体から検出されたのはカラスムギで57検体から検出され,オーストラリア産オーツヘイ中の80%以上に混入していた。次いでライグラス類が多く43検体から検出され,これもオーストラリア産オーツヘイ中に大量に混入していた。
