Abstract
Cette étude de cas trace un portrait des villages allemands de la Louisiane française en 1724 en se basant sur un recensement. Des informations quantitatives révèlent des détails sur la largeur des terres, la démographie, l’élevage et les récoltes de maïs et de riz. Des éléments qualitatifs nous renseignent sur l'identité des habitants, leurs conditions de vie, leur environnement et leurs pratiques agricoles et alimentaires. L’auteur du document aborde également la question de l'approvisionnement alimentaire de la Nouvelle-Orléans et propose un plan pour gérer la distribution des esclaves. Quelques caractéristiques des villages allemands serviront de base à une comparaison avec la Nouvelle-France.
