S’insérant dans le cadre d’une édition critique électronique multimédia, cet article s’attarde surtout aux brouillons électroniques du roman postmoderne Bloupe de Jean Babineau. Au début des années 1990, survient la révolution technologique la plus importante dans l’histoire de l’écriture depuis l’invention de la machine à écrire : l’ordinateur personnel devient abordable, voire indispensable pour tout écrivain sérieux. Un inventaire détaillé des archives de l’auteur a révélé l’existence de 31 disquettes de 3,5 pouces contenant 17 versions distinctes du roman, qui ont été élaborées sur une période de presque deux ans. Par des fonctions de logiciels de traitement de texte qui permettent la comparaison de versions électroniques, nous arrivons à reconstituer la chronologie, à établir une datation assez exacte et à relever de façon exhaustive toutes les variantes électroniques. Nous tenterons de dégager les particularités du brouillon électronique et de montrer l’influence que le support électronique a pu avoir sur la production ou la révision du texte définitif. Enfin, en nous basant sur des études à la fine pointe dans le domaine, nous proposerons une méthodologie et des outils pour analyser ce nouveau phénomène de la génétique textuelle.
